This statement was posted in our
Press Room on cancer.org on August 24:
"COVID-19 continues to pose a serious health threat to cancer patients, survivors, and the public at large. It is our loved ones, friends, and neighbors who continue to be at risk. In response to the size and scope of this crisis, the American Cancer Society has a compelling obligation to act by doing what we do best: following the evidence, leading with science, and always putting people first.
Therefore, the American Cancer Society and American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network will enact a new mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. All full and part-time staff will need to be fully vaccinated by November 1, 2021. This policy is only for employees, it does not extend to volunteers or program participants at this time.
When it comes to the evidence around the COVID-19 vaccine, there is no question the vaccines are safe and effective at mitigating severe illness. We know this because for more than a century the American Cancer Society has been guided by scientific evidence in all we do. We trust the science.
