New video series available for cancer survivors

Join Oct. 13 webinar to learn about videos and nutrition, physical activity guides.

The American Cancer Society, with support from the Center for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support (CSTLTS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC,) has created a series of video modules for survivors on nutrition, physical activity, body weight, and cancer survivorship. The Benefits of Healthy Behaviors for Cancer Survivors video series includes five animated videos that discuss the benefits of healthy eating, physical activity, and other behaviors like stress reduction and sleep, during and after cancer treatment.

This video series complements the information series for clinicians, Nutrition, Physical Activity, Body Weight, and Cancer Survivorship, which is appropriate for primary care and oncology health care clinicians working with survivors during treatment, immediately after treatment, or during long-term survivorship. That series was released in March, along with a new ACS nutrition and physical activity guideline for cancer survivors.

Excess body weight, physical activity, and dietary factors are associated with cancer outcomes for survivors of some cancers, as well as being important for their long-term health and well-being and to reduce the risk of a new cancer. Health care providers can be key motivators in giving patients the extra support they need to achieve their healthy lifestyle goals. However, many providers don’t feel equipped to have these conversations with patients because they lack knowledge or resources to counsel their patients.
