ACS appoints Dave Lew as chief marketing officer

The American Cancer Society (ACS) has appointed Dave Lew as its Chief Marketing Officer. In this role, Lew will focus on crafting and executing a cohesive brand strategy for the organization that not only improves the lives of cancer patients, but also has the potential to transform the lives of millions more. Additionally, he will lead marketing revenue with a focus on fundraising activities conducted through digital channels.

“Dave’s tremendous passion for marketing is only matched by his immense dedication to helping improve the lives of cancer patients and their families,” said Dr. Karen E. Knudsen, CEO of the American Cancer Society and ACS Cancer Action Network. “His deep knowledge and experience in marketing within the nonprofit and cancer space will serve to meaningfully amplify ACS’s story in bold new ways.”

Lew has more than two decades of experience leading audience-focused strategy and marketing, brand, research, product innovation and sales for multiple lines of business. He comes to ACS most recently from American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC), the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where he served as senior vice president of Strategic Marketing. In that capacity, he led marketing initiatives to sustain, cultivate, and grow the brand while attracting new, diverse supporters. Other previous work includes leadership roles at Vitamix and nearly 20 years of marketing and business leadership at Newell Brands, where Lew led marketing work for iconic global brands such as Coleman, Contigo, Sharpie, and Calphalon.

“I was drawn to the American Cancer Society because the organization’s work closely aligns with my professional and personal mission to help in the fight to end cancer for everyone,” said Lew. “Joining this iconic organization will enable me to take my experience and learnings in marketing and broaden them in service of ACS.”

Lew serves as chairman of the board of GRIP Outreach For Youth, a Chicago-based nonprofit. He has also served as a National Hero Ambassador for St. Jude Research Hospital. He received an MBA from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School and a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Arizona. He will be based in Memphis, TN where he resides with his wife and three children.
