On October 1, the American Cancer Society launched a new online health assessment tool – created in partnership with the NFL - called The Defender – available at thedefender.cancer.org. The Defender allows fans to answer a few simple questions to assess their health and then receive personalized tips to reduce their cancer risk by making simple lifestyle changes.
"Many people want to reduce their risk for cancer, but they don't know where to start," said Rich Wender, MD, our chief cancer control officer. "That's where The Defender comes in. Fans can answer a few short questions, and The Defender will create a personalized game plan for improving health and reducing cancer risk." Read Dr. Wender's blog entry about this on Medium.
ACS released a press release on The Defender tool. Several materials are available to help you promote the new online tool including: 15-second and 30-second PSAs.
The launch of the health assessment tool is part of the NFL's expansion this fall beyond breast cancer to support early detection and screening for many cancers. Through their new platform, Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer, the NFL and its clubs are encouraged to support the cancer-fighting efforts that best impact their own community, and leverage the reach of the NFL's nationwide platform through local grassroots efforts focused on promoting cancer screening, honoring cancer survivors, and planning special in-stadium or pre-game events.
