Dr. Knudsen coauthors op-ed on clinical trial diversity

Engaging Black America Supplement urges Congress to support DIVERSE Trials Act.

Urban One has released its 2022 Engaging Black America Special Supplement. This year’s supplement features an editorial coauthored by American Cancer Society and American Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Karen Knudsen and U.S. Representative Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. The publication also features a full-page advertisement, pictured below. Both the editorial and ad highlight the importance of clinical trial diversity and include a call to action for members of Congress to support the DIVERSE Trials Act (S.2706/ H.R. 5030).

A key legislative priority, the DIVERSE Trials Act can help increase access to clinical trials and improve participation by communities that are traditionally underrepresented in them by removing barriers to costs from non-medical fees for patients.

Engaging Black America is a special feature publication produced by Urban One Inc., the largest media company highlighting the important issues impacting the Black community. It is distributed to members of Congress and features editorial content by lawmakers and sponsor organizations on issues such as, health care, education, energy, jobs, economic development, banking/financial services, and justice reform. The publication is also featured across Urban One’s media network websites for additional visibility and engagement. This is the fourth year that ACS CAN has sponsored the publication.

ACS CAN continues to advocate for policies that ensure everyone has a fair and just opportunity to prevent, find, treat, and survive cancer.
