ACS launches SMS text messaging program

Marketing team debuts a new way to connect with supporters.

The Direct Marketing team is excited to introduce a new SMS (Short Message Service, or text message) program. The ACS Brand SMS Program successfully launched on March 27. By opting into SMS, constituents will receive three to four text messages per month focused on general marketing campaigns, research, news, health-related tips, and ways to get involved with the American Cancer Society.

External promotion of the new SMS program through existing marketing channels will begin mid- to late-April and continue throughout the year. No immediate action is needed from team members, though everyone is welcome to opt into the messages at cancer.org/sms

What to expect in ACS Brand SMS text messages:

  • The most current treatment options
  • Up-to-date cancer stats and screening guidelines
  • Ways you can get involved in the fight
  • Prevention tips, healthy recipes, and more

While content may vary depending on the subscriber’s location or involvement with ACS, messages will not focus on community fundraising or volunteering, philanthropy, or 1:1 communication with managed constituents. Contacts will not have the option to adjust text frequency, nor the topics sent to them.

All subscribers will be required to opt in to receive text messages, and no one will automatically be enrolled. Subscribers who opt in or out of ACS Brand SMS will not see changes to any other communication they are subscribed to.
