Discovering the Future to spotlight breast cancer

ACS-funded researcher and survivor will share personal stories Oct. 11.

Mark your calendar and help spread the word! On Wednesday, Oct. 11, all ACS team members and supporters are invited to join Discovering the Future, a virtual conversation series that will feature an ACS funded researcher and a dedicated breast cancer survivor and volunteer. This live event will highlight how donor dollars are making an impact and saving lives today, while changing the future of breast cancer breakthroughs. As one of several Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities, this inspiring program serves as an important touchpoint with donors and supporters of any ACS program.

Participants will hear from ACS funded researcher Tiffany Ríos-Fuller, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Robert Schneider, PhD, at NYU Langone Health, where she is working to advance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that drive breast cancer development and progression. Her research will address a major knowledge gap in understanding the basis of breast cancer metastasis, by targeting the activity of a poorly studied regulatory pathway that has been largely unknown in cancer biology. Ultimately, the proposed research plan will advance our knowledge of metastatic breast and other cancers and contribute to development of new therapeutic strategies.

Dr. Ríos-Fuller will be joined by Laura Renegar, a 12-year breast cancer survivor and team leader of the Primax Pink Warriors, a nationwide Top Performing Making Strides Against Breast Cancer team. After losing her mother to breast cancer many years ago, Laura knew her family had a higher risk, but she really did not know what that meant, until she herself was diagnosed. According to Laura, “This is the life I fought so hard to keep – and every surgery, every chemo treatment, and every side effect has been well worth it.”

Save the date and feel free to invite others to this engaging conversation!
