Special series of cards connects gamers to our mission

Limited time sale of Magic: The Gathering cards will benefit ACS.

Wizards of the Coast, a gaming company renowned for creating some of the most popular and influential collectible card games and tabletop role-playing games, is releasing a special run of game cards in support of the American Cancer Society. Besides a cause marketing opportunity, this product release holds a special meaning in its design.

The new cards – a Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drop called "Sheldon's Spellbook" – will be available to order from Feb. 26 to March 24, and 50% of each purchase will be contributed to ACS.

This series of cards was created in honor of, and in collaboration with, Magic: The Gathering Commander and format creator, Sheldon Menery. Tragically, Sheldon passed away in September 2023 after a seven-year battle with cancer, prior to the release of “Sheldon’s Spellbook.” These limited-edition cards quote his game strategies and personal beliefs. There are even cards that looks like Sheldon himself and that mirror his deck strategy, preserving a piece of his magic in the game forever.

Sheldon's impact on the Magic: The Gathering community was profound, as a founding member of the most popular style of play. Members of the community, including Scott Larabee, Olivia Gobert-Hicks, and Gavin Verhey, are tweeting their support of this drop.

The “Sheldon’s Spellbook” won't have a limit on the number of copies, allowing all to celebrate Sheldon's impact not only honoring his memory but also contributing to the broader fight against cancer. In addition, ACS is reaching out to the Magic: The Gathering and Wizards of the Coast communities in support of amplifying support of cancer awareness, prevention, and screening.
