In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Volunteer Affinity Groups will host its first ever joint virtual event, “Equitable Access: Return to Breast Cancer Screening for Under Resourced Communities,” on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 8 p.m. ET. Cancer survivors and panelists from ACS CAN’s six volunteer affinity groups will share their stories and expertise to highlight breast cancer screening commonalities and unique considerations among their communities.

During the event, panelists ACS CAN Georgia Lead Volunteer Flecia Brown, ACS CAN Texas Lead Volunteer Ashton Davidson, Jessica Gilbertson of the National Council for Urban Indian Health, Elizabeth J. Cathcart-Rake, M.D., based at Mayo Clinic, and Jasmine Gowarty, M.D., based at Texas Oncology, will discuss breast cancer screening disparities and opportunities related to access to care, medical costs, mammographic quality, common stigmas and discrimination.
ACS CAN centers lived experiences and voices of its diverse volunteer leaders through their affinity groups to enhance, strengthen, and diversify communications, messaging, partnerships, policy initiatives, volunteer outreach, training, and engagement within all communities.
